A bored heart

This post is a continuation from the last post!

The New York life captivated and engulfed him. He was free and gay! What more could he ask for...right? It would be years until the lies ended and the truth came out…he was struggling to make ends meet.  The happiness was a façade and deep within he was hurting.

And so he humbled himself and years later he got a one-way ticket back to Ohio. I was elated because my brother was returning back home. Returning back for good, I hoped.

But I was mistaken.

He made his journey to Ohio in the winter. The air was crisp. He walked in, dropped his bags and made himself at home.

All the while, my mom was busy in the kitchen cooking and fussing that the house wasn’t clean enough.  The girls (Sabrina, Chelsea and me) decided to take a stroll through the Greene and up to Wendy’s. He laughed and laughed because we had to walk, but he enjoyed himself nonetheless.

Since he believed that Ohio was boring, we hoped to prove him wrong. But what he had in mind for a vacation wasn’t to sit at home and talk or be bored with mundane tasks, such as sleeping. He wanted to party because that is what he craved.

Instead, the few friends he had in Ohio didn’t return his phone calls. He wanted to be driven to their houses, but the only transportation at the time was my uncle’s truck. And he was on the road. To make matters worse, we were still in school trying to entertain him and prepare for finals.

The very next day, the house was silent and my brother was home alone because my aunt had to go to work. I came home from school, and he was shoving his clothes in his bag.

And then reality hit, he decided to leave again because he felt that we were boring. “There is nothing to do here,” he said.  The very situation, I hoped to avoid. Ohio wasn’t where his heart lye anymore. He felt that we didn’t go out of our way to make him feel comfortable or treat him like a “real” guest.
To him, “real” guest wouldn’t be cooped inside of a house or sleeping all day.

The next day he was on a plane to New York, and the next time I heard from him was two-years later after he experienced a rude awakening.
